Wednesday, February 25 - Jewish Quarter and Western Wall Tunnels

Shalom,
It is hard to imagine that this is the final day of CAARI 2015!  It has been a wonderful experience for
the past 6 1/2 weeks.  We have enjoyed and been rewarded with our work in the schools, rehab center, Botanical Gardens and JNF forests.  We have traveled the country from the Galilee to Eilat - saw traditional tourist sites and so many places that are off -the beaten track that gave us incite into the lives of Israelis - like Sderot, Alexander Muss School, lunch at a Druse Village, a restored German Templar, tour of the i24 news station and so much more.  Our speakers spoke on the many current issues that are in the daily news.  We viewed  a wonderful documentary by Yael Katzir.  And, we did this with a terrific group of people!

Susan and Neil planned the last day in the Jewish Quarter where we visited the Kotel, toured the amazing Western Wall Tunnels and ended our tour in the Jewish Quarter, surrounded by the history of the Jewish People!

Wishing all a wonderful year

Li'hitriot!  Next year with CAARI 2016 , from January 11 - February 25 with program options!

February 24 - Visit to KKL_JNF Headquarters, Salvage Dig & Israel Museum

Shalom,

We began our day with a visit to the KKL- JNF offices where Jana spoke to us on the Honor Books. The day before we had been to Yad Vashem so we were aware of the limited pictures of the children born just before the Holocaust.   Susan and Neil made a special presentation to Marcia Bercov in memory of her late husband, Ron.

After the visit to KKL-JNF Headquarters, we headed to ta site on the western slopes of Mt. Scopus, at Emek Tzurim National Park, overlooking the Old City.  In 2004, archaeologists, under the auspices of Bar-Ilan University, established project for sifting the earth debris that had been removed from the Temple Mount.  Here, CAARI began their work 'sifting' buckets of debris.  They found pottery shards, rocks, stones, metal pieces - no coins or jewelry, but the best was found by Bernie, a piece of the water sysem from the Ottoman Empire Period.

Free time in the afternoon for shopping, visiting with friends and family or just hanging out!

In the late afternoon, the group visited the impressive Israel Museum.  Neil took some on the 'Highlight Tour', others wandered through the various exhibits on their own.  One of the special exhibits was 'Dress Codes - Revealing the Jewish Wardrobe'

.
Following the tour, CAARI concluded the day with the traditional Farewell Dinner at Modern Restaurant for a festive evening!

Enjoy the pictures!
