The World of Underwater Archeology with CAARI - February 15, 2022

Amazing, fascinating, one our best days!  We arrived at Dor after our morning work at the Botanical Gardens.  Nahum and Susan told us about CAARI’s past visits with Kurt Raveh, but we had no idea what an exceptional visit it would be!

Dor is an incredibly beautiful and an interesting place.  Who knew about the world of underwater archeology?  Kurt brought it to life as we walked about the beach and overlook to see the ancient ruins and learn about his work.

Kurt  Raveh, arrived in Israel from Holland in 1973 and had dedicated his lifetime work to Maritime archeology and the study and exploration of the ancient port of Dor, where Kibbutz Nahsholim is located.   He fell in love with the place and started taking part in underwater archaeological excavations in the area.

He has discovered, or been involved, with over 40 major projects and ancient shipwrecks in the region.  The ancient Sea of Galilee Project, known as the Jesus boat and the search for Napoleon’s lost Armor, are among his famous project.

An outstanding day!

CAARI brings us to such incredible places.  This was another highlight! Thanks to Donelle for pictures.  Enjoy!

Monday, February 14 - Amazing Graffiti Tour of a Tel Aviv Neighborhood

Amazing!  Who knew how interesting street art could be? We had the best guide, so knowledgeable, knew some of the artists personally and understands the meaning of their works.  Certainly a wonderful, colorful tour!  The best!  Enjoy

Sunday, February 13, Community Service and Peres Peace Center

After our community service and lunch we headed off to the Peres Peace Center. The Israeli Innovation Center at the Peres Center for Peace and Innovation is now open to the public. CAARI  has visited this special place over the years, but now they really have a wonderful information  program which inspires all who visit.

This beautifully, but modestly constructed building, is located in the Jaffa neighborhood, overlooking the wide open Mediterranean Sea, which speaks volumes for the location and work of the Center.

The Peres Center for Peace and Innovation is one of Israel's leading non-profit NGOs was founded in 1996 by Shimon Peres.  The Center  develops and implements unique and cutting-edge programs in Innovation, Sports, Cultivation of Leadership and Entrepreneurship, Health, Business, and Environment.

These flagship programs serve hundreds of thousands of beneficiaries of all ages, religions, and genders, and are implemented with a network of local, regional, and international partners.

We were part of a group tour, lead by a well-versed guide and used a variety of multi-media presentations to inform  visitors about the work of being done in Israel. Definitely innovative!
